National Police Cadet Corps

NTU NPCC is one of the two Open Units, the other being NUS NPCC, under the National Police Cadet Corps Headquarters (NPCC HQ). NPCC is the premier youth uniformed group for secondary school students. Currently, it has more than 20,000 cadets and more than 1,000 NPCC Officers and Cadet Inspectors; making us the largest uniform group to date.

NPCC conducts training and activities for its cadets in the following areas:

  • Rifle/Revolver shooting
  • Outdoor activities such as canoeing and rafting
  • Camping skills
  • Basic NPCC/Police Knowledge
  • Crime Prevention Knowledge
  • Total Defence/Civil Defence Knowledge
  • First Aid training
  • Basic drills/Ceremonial Parades

Each year, NTU NPCC participates in the NTU ECA Fair as part of the unit’s recruitment drive for NPCC Honorary Officers. During the ECA Fair, undergraduates are invited to join NPCC as Honorary Officers. Successful applicants undergo a 2-week Honorary Officers’ Basic Training Course (HOBTC) at NPCC HQ, Home Team Academy, during the December term break. Course participants will be trained in NPCC knowledge, basic drills, first-aid essentials, revolver and air-rifle shooting and outdoor camping essentials.

The training will prepare them to undertake the duties and responsibilities of a NPCC Honorary Officer. Upon completion of the Officers’ Basic Training Course, they will be appointed as NPCC Honorary Officers by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education. These NPCC Honorary Officers will then be posted to secondary schools to assist NPCC Teacher-Officers in the conduct of NPCC training and activities for NPCC cadets. Honorary Officers may also be posted to NPCC HQ to conduct training and enrichment for all NPCC units.

NPCC HQ also provides overseas educational tours for selected outstanding officers. Enrichment courses such as Power Craft License and OBS training will also be offered to officers too. Being an NPCC Honorary Officer provides you with the chance to conduct training and activities for NPCC cadets. It is also a good opportunity for you to develop your leadership and communication skills. Furthermore, it enriches you with many camping and other outdoor activities such as canoeing and trekking expeditions.

All NTU/NIE Undergraduates, who are Singapore citizens or Permanent citizens, are eligible to apply to join NPCC as Honorary Officers. Foreign students will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants need not have prior experiences in NPCC or otherwise.

Interested applicants should apply at the annual NTU ECA Recruitment Fair or through on-line application here. Applicants will have to attend a selection interview. Successful applicants must attend a 2-week Officers’ Basic Training Course at NPCC HQ, Police Academy, during the Nov/Dec school holidays.

Course fees and uniforms are fully provided for by NPCC HQ. Upon completion of the Officers’ Basic Training Course, they will be appointed as NPCC Honorary Officers with the rank of NPCC Probationary Honorary Inspector (P/H/Insp).

They will then be confirmed as NPCC Honorary Inspector (H/Insp) after a 1-year probationary period. NPCC Honorary Officers are required to serve the NTU NPCC Open Unit and a secondary school NPCC Unit, throughout their course of study at NTU/NIE.
